Schumer to Force Senate Vote on Defunding DOJ, FBI

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) intends to force Senators to vote on a resolution condemning former President Donald Trump’s call to cut funding to the FBI and Justice Department.

Schumer disclosed his plans in a letter to Democrats in the Senate.

“Donald Trump’s call for defunding federal law enforcement agencies is a baseless, self-serving broadside against the men and women who keep our nation safe,” Schumer writes

“The former President and his allies in Congress must not subjugate justice and public safety because of their own personal grievances,” the letter continues.

The resolution will say that the Senate “recognizes and appreciates the dedication and devotion” of federal law enforcement officers, condemns the calls to defend their agencies, and rejects “partisan attempts” to reduce trust in federal law enforcement.

Last week, Trump posted the comments that apparently inspired Schumer’s resolution.

On his Truth Social media platform, Trump unloaded on federal agencies after criticizing the New York investigation into his hush money payments to Stormy Daniels.

“REPUBLICANS IN CONGRESS SHOULD DEFUND THE DOJ AND FBI UNTIL THEY COME TO THEIR SENSES,” Trump posted, saying Democrats “weaponized” the agencies against him for political gain.

Some Trump allies in the House, such as Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), followed his lead to call for defunding federal law enforcement agencies involved in investigations into the former president.

House Republicans have also separately called for investigations into Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who is overseeing the hush money investigation, and into how he may have used federal funds for his probe.

Jordan, also the House Judiciary Chair, recently subpoenaed a former Manhattan District Attorney’s Office prosecutor who worked on the hush money investigation.

It remains to be seen if Senate Republicans see Schumer’s resolution vote as the “gotcha” he evidently perceives it to be.

  2. Mr. Schumer
Your bosses, THE AMERICAN TAX PAYER, demand defunding FBI and DOJ, regardless of your corrupt SOROS owned opinion. It is repulsive that the scum like you spend a lifetime trying to undo constitution and screw the American tax payer.
