Illinois Man Arrested for Alleged Attack on Rep. Nancy Mace on Capitol Hill

Liberal activists are once again acting violently. An Illinois man was arrested Tuesday evening for allegedly attacking Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., according to U.S. Capitol Police.

James McIntyre, 33, faces a charge of assaulting a government official after an incident in the Rayburn House Office Building, writes CBS News. Authorities have not disclosed where in Illinois McIntyre resides.

The Rayburn House Office Building was open at the time of the incident and McIntyre had been through a security screening, Capitol police said.

Earlier Tuesday night, the South Carolina congresswoman posted on social media that she was “physically accosted” on Capitol grounds. Mace wrote in the post that she would be able need a brace for her wrist and ice for her arm—but that she would be fine.

Mace also insinuated in the post that the attack had something to do with her stance on trans issues, but Capitol police did not confirm a possible motive.

Mace posted on social media on Wednesday morning that she was experiencing pain and soreness from the previous night’s assault. She said President-elect Donald Trump called to check in on her, adding that Inauguration Day “can’t come soon enough.”

Mace, who represents South Carolina, posted on social media shortly after the incident, stating she had been “physically accosted” and would need a brace for her wrist and ice for her arm. Despite the injuries, she assured her followers she would recover.

Mace has recently been at the center of controversy over her legislative efforts regarding transgender access to facilities on Capitol Hill. Last month, she introduced a resolution that would require individuals to use single-sex facilities corresponding to their biological sex. The proposal explicitly aims to prohibit transgender women from using women’s restrooms, locker rooms, and other gender-specific spaces in the Capitol complex.

The timing of her proposal coincided with the election of Rep.-elect Sarah McBride of Delaware, who made history as the first openly transgender person elected to Congress. Mace’s resolution claims that allowing transgender individuals to use facilities aligned with their gender identity could compromise the “safety and dignity” of women in the Capitol.
