Olbermann Apologizes to Jennings After Threatening Posts Spark Backlash

Former sports anchor and MSNBC political commentator Keith Olbermann issued a public apology earlier in the week to CNN contributor Scott Jennings after deleting a pair of social media posts that many interpreted as threats.

“I apologize without reservation to @ScottJenningsKY,” Olbermann wrote on Twitter. He explained the deletions: “Yesterday I wrote and immediately deleted two responses to him about Kimmel because they could be misinterpreted as a threat to anything besides his career.”

Olbermann stressed his opposition to political violence, as reported The New York Post. “All times are the wrong time to leave even an inadvertent impression of it – but this time is especially wrong,” he said. Acknowledging his delay in addressing the controversy, he added, “I should’ve acknowledged the deletion and apologized yesterday. I’m sorry I delayed.”

The uproar stemmed from a clash over Jimmy Kimmel, who is set to return to ABC after a suspension tied to remarks about the September 10 assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at a Utah campus. Olbermann’s deleted posts reportedly included messages to Jennings such as, “You’re next motherf—ker” and “but keep mugging to the camera.”

Even after apologizing, Olbermann continued to target Jennings. “We won, you stupid pieces of s–t,” he wrote in one follow-up post about Kimmel’s return. He escalated by predicting Jennings’ downfall: “Now we get the fascists off real tv. That’d mean your career is next, Jennings. Send a tape to Real America’s Voice.” He signed off: “But keeping mugging to camera, amateur.”

Jennings responded by posting screenshots of the threats and tagging FBI Director Kash Patel. It is not yet clear whether federal authorities are investigating.

The apology comes amid a string of inflammatory remarks from Olbermann. In recent days he has branded Secretary of State Marco Rubio a “political prostitute,” mocked border czar Tom Homan by noting he “literally has the word ‘ho’ in his name,” and lobbed crude barbs at Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. tied to a sexting scandal.

For now, Olbermann has not retracted his other statements.
