Elon Musk Considers Trendy D.C. Hotel for Exclusive Social Club

The richest man in the world may be putting some roots down in the nation’s capital. In a move that intertwines politics, business, and hospitality, Elon Musk is reportedly preparing to purchase the Line Hotel, a highly regarded property in Washington, D.C.’s Northwest area. According to sources familiar with the matter, Musk plans to repurpose the 220-room hotel into a private social club.

The Line Hotel, situated at 1770 Euclid Street NW, was originally a church before its transformation into a luxury establishment. Since its 2017 debut, it has garnered attention as a top destination in the city, boasting restaurants like Rake’s Progress by James Beard Award-winning chef Spike Gjerde and lobby-level dining by Erik Bruner-Yang, a celebrated restaurateur. While these eateries closed during the pandemic, the hotel remains home to No Goodbyes, an all-day restaurant known for its creative menu and inventive cocktails, writes Eater.

The recently inducted member of President-elect Donald Trump’s billionaire boys club plans to turn the desirable Northwest digs with 220 rooms into a “private social club” of sorts, according to multiple sources familiar with the deal.

A previously announced public auction for the former church-turned-posh property (1770 Euclid Street NW) is scheduled for Thursday, January 23 — just three days after Musk’s BFF reassumes power in the same city. Musk is poised to lead the newly coined Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) once Trump moves back into the White House.

The high-profile CEO is behind behemoth brands like rocket-blasting SpaceX, e-car company Tesla, and the social media platform formerly known as Twitter (X), so it would only make sense that he wants to try the hospitality industry on for size next.

The hotel is scheduled for auction on January 23, shortly after President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, adding intrigue to Musk’s potential acquisition. The sale follows the property’s foreclosure last year by its California-based lender, Acore Capital, citing financial struggles. The auction will be livestreamed from a courthouse in New York.

Although Musk has yet to reveal specific plans for the Line Hotel, the project could further enhance his reputation as a trailblazer in diverse industries. Additionally, he is expected to speak at Trump’s pre-inauguration rally on January 21 at Capital One Arena, an event that has reportedly sold out its luxury suites.
