A 27-year-old woman was shot and injured early Thursday morning after crashing her vehicle into a gate outside CIA headquarters in Langley, prompting an armed response from federal security personnel.
Law enforcement officials identified the suspect as Monia Spadaro, who was hospitalized with gunshot wounds following the confrontation, according to NBC News. Authorities are investigating whether she was impaired at the time of the crash. Court records show Spadaro was convicted of driving while intoxicated in 2021 in Arlington County and received a suspended 180-day jail sentence.
The CIA acknowledged the incident in a brief statement, confirming that a “security incident” had occurred at the entrance to the George Bush Center for Intelligence. The agency said its main gate remained closed and advised employees to use alternate routes but declined to provide further details.
Fairfax County Police assisted with traffic control on Dolley Madison Boulevard around 4 a.m. and reported that no road closures remain in effect.
The incident occurred just hours after two Israeli embassy staff members were gunned down outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C.—a separate attack that authorities say has no apparent connection to the Langley crash.
Thursday’s shooting is the latest in a troubling pattern of security breaches at the CIA’s headquarters. In 1993, two employees were killed and three others wounded in a deadly ambush outside the facility. More recently, in March, a man was involved in a prolonged standoff at the gate before surrendering to law enforcement.
