Fidel Castro’s Daughter Fuels Justin Trudeau Half-Brother Rumors With Cryptic Answer

Alina Fernandez, the exiled daughter of late Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, declined to dismiss longstanding rumors that former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau could be her half-brother during a Tuesday television interview.

Fernandez appeared on NewsNation’s Katie Pavlich Tonight to discuss Cuba’s continuing humanitarian crisis, U.S. sanctions against the communist government, and President Donald Trump’s comments about possible military action after the conclusion of peace negotiations with Iran.

But near the end of the interview, host Katie Pavlich raised a very different subject: the persistent claim that Castro, rather than former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, was Justin Trudeau’s biological father.

“For years we’ve heard rumors that Justin Trudeau, the former prime minister of Canada , could be your half brother. What do you think about it?” Pavlich asked.

Fernandez smiled before offering a carefully worded response, noted Mediate.

“The only thing I can say is that his mother used to visit the country very often.”

“Well that may be a tell then,” Pavlich said. “I guess that’s a half answer.”

“Yes,” Fernandez responded.

Pavlich then asked whether Fernandez had any intention of contacting Trudeau to settle the question.

“No, no,” Fernandez said. “If he wants he’s welcome but I won’t, I won’t. I think he keeps that to himself and you have to respect that.”

Fernandez neither confirmed nor directly denied the allegation, leaving viewers with another ambiguous answer to a rumor that has circulated for years.

The theory maintains that Fidel Castro fathered Trudeau during a relationship with his mother, Margaret Trudeau. It has spread widely online and received renewed attention after Trump mentioned it in his 2024 book, Save America.

Speculation intensified following Castro’s death in 2016, when Trudeau released a statement praising the communist ruler as a “larger than life leader” and describing him as a family friend.

The publicly documented timeline, however, presents a major problem for the theory. Justin Trudeau was born in December 1971, while Pierre and Margaret Trudeau’s first official trip to Cuba occurred in 1976, approximately five years later.

Since leaving office, Trudeau has mostly spent his time following his girlfriend around, Katy Perry. He was most recently seen acting like a strange backup dancer to a video she posted online:

Fernandez’s interview provided no proof that Castro was Trudeau’s father. But her decision to reference Margaret Trudeau’s frequent visits to Cuba—and her refusal to issue a straightforward denial—ensured that the rumors will continue.
