The Dodgers’ Pride Night has been thrown into chaos after the team disinvited a controversial LGBT drag group it intended to honor after backlash from conservatives.
It’s a somewhat shocking decision, given the team’s hometown of liberal Los Angeles.
After criticism from several Catholic groups, and comments from Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, the Dodgers withdrew their invitation to The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
The group is described on their website as an “order of queer and trans nuns,” which has been called out by Catholic organizations for its bigoted behavior for decades.
The Dodgers intended to award the troupe a Community Hero Award during its Pride Night to honors its “countless hours” of “promoting human rights and respect for diversity and spiritual enlightenment.”
Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League, accused the Dodgers of “rewarding anti-Catholicism” in a statement after the group was announced.
“The Catholic League has been the leading critic of this bigoted organization for many decades,” he wrote on the organization’s website.
Senator Rubio reportedly sent a complain to Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred, saying the SPI “mocks Christians through diabolical parodies of our faith.”
The Dodgers released an update rescinding the invitation midweek.
“We are now aware that our inclusion of one group in particular — The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence — in this year’s Pride Night has been the source of some controversy,” the team said.
“Given the strong feelings of people who have been offended by the sisters’ inclusion in our evening, and in an effort not to distract from the great benefits that we have seen over the years of Pride Night, we are deciding to remove them from this year’s group of honorees.”
LGBT Groups Drop Out in Response
State Representative Robert Garcia released a statement calling for a boycott of the team’s Pride Night in response to the Dodgers’ decision.
“Los Angeles is better than this cowardice and deserves better from the Dodgers. Our community should boycot [sic] this “pride night” and protest this decision. We’ll see if they choose to be on the right side of history,” he said.
LA Pride, a regular community partner of the Dodgers, as well as the Los Angeles LGBT Center and the ACLU of Southern California all apparently heeded his call as they issued separate statements dropping out.
What a good thing that all the freak groups are staging a boycott. Now, if the decent, sane people pack the stadium with American flags & other signs of true patriotism, won’t it be great!
Happy Warrior I agree. Absolutely not a Dodger fan but I would go if I lived in CA. Tired of all this “Woke” garbage.
Bad Optics
Bad press
Lose Game sales then OK
It pays to speak out folks!! Keep doing it! As a nation under God, we need to keep reminding people of the sinful lifestyles we do not want our youth exposed to. There is no need for Pride Night PERIOD!! If so, then equal recognition should be given to prostitutes, arsonists, burglars and other groups of people who indulge in these sinful lifestyles. We need to just quit normalizing what is sinful. Sin used to be something for which people were ashamed of…even to the point of keeping mouths closed about their sin. It would be nice if it was once again kept quiet…and better yet, if they came to the point of repentance and asking the Lord to help change them into what they are created for….to do HIS will, not their own.
Right now, strange as it may seem, these corporations care more about their ESG scores than the profitability of their business model. Take a good look at the prospectus of whatever mutual funds you may own: they all have ESG scores now. At some point, and without the major public outrage and blowback Bud Light got, this virtue signaling will convert to coercion as it has in China which requires individual social credit scores to do anything.
Hell, after backlash against the backlash, they crawfished back and reinvited the “sisters”. Wish I was a LA fan just so I could boycott the game.
This is just plain SICK. To award this group an “Community Hero Award” is disgusting. I love MLB but a big “BOO” to the Dodgers.
