Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador addressed Hispanics in America during his Thursday press briefing, urging them not to support Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for president in 2024.
López Obrador specifically called out DeSantis’ immigration policies.
“Hopefully Hispanics in Florida will wake up and not give him one single vote, to not vote for those who persecute migrants, those who don’t respect migrants,” he said.
He also took credit for predicting the governor’s run.
“As you can see I wasn’t wrong that all his politicking over migrants was because he wanted to be the Republican Party’s candidate,” López Obrador said.
DeSantis Increasingly Tough on Immigration in Florida
DeSantis addressed immigration in his announcement event on Twitter Spaces with Elon Musk.
“We cannot have foreigners pouring into our country illegally by the millions, we cannot allow drug cartels to poison our population with fentanyl,” he said in his opening remarks.
“Biden opened the southern border and allowed massive amounts of drugs to pour into the country. We’ll shut down the border, construct a border wall, and hold the drug cartels accountable.”
In the summer of 2021, DeSantis deployed state law enforcement to Texas to assist with the “catastrophe at the southern border”.
Just one week before his announcement, as the end of Title 42 brought a surge of migrants, DeSantis once again sent Florida law enforcement to “aid Texas’ border security crisis”.
He also took a page from Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s book when he chartered several flights to Martha’s Vineyard for immigrants who had recently crossed the border.
On May 10th, he signed a bill into law increasing penalties on employers who hire illegal immigrants and requires hospitals to report patient’s immigration status.
“The Biden Border Crisis has wreaked havoc across the United States and has put Americans in danger,” DeSantis said at the time. “In Florida, we will not stand idly by while the federal government abandons its lawful duties to protect our country.”

Mexican President: it’s not about respect for migrants. It’s about respect for US immigration laws. YOU don’t respect the US when you encourage illegals and allow cartels to control your borders. Take care of your own country and your people-that’s what you should focus on. Your people are breaking the law. Borders are meant to keep people in their own country. Keep your people in your country!! The US is not your personal bank and “dumping” ground for everyone who wants a job and for everyone who wants to “get away” from the corruption and criminals in Mexico. Fix Mexico instead of trying to interfere with American citizens in Florida and the US! We know who you are and what you do and don’t do!

Time for the Mexican President to worry about his own country. He might ask himself why are all those Mexicans fleeing to the USA?? His being against DeSantis just make him more electable.
The President of Mexico encourages and abets the invasion of the United States and resents the push back presented by DeSantis and others! I applaud anything that those who support controlling our borders and stemming the invasion of this country.
I particularly applaud what the Trump Administration had initiated to protect our nation from invaders. And the Biden Administration should be held accountable for the existing border crisis because he trashed the Trump policy purely for politics and revenge as he welcomed the entire world a free pass!

The President of Mexico is wrong. Immigrants must obey our immigration laws regardless of where they come from. If the situation was reversed he would not refer to them as migrants. He would have them arrested because they are law breakers. His comments about DeSantis are because he wants U S Presidents to ignore our immigration laws so that we have to deal with these trouble makers.

If Mexico weren’t the hellhole it is, your people would want to remain in their home country. Life must be extremely difficult to mayone choose to leave their homeland and sneak into another country where nothing is familiar – a different language, different culture, and a different way of life
The crime in your country has chased people away. Your economy can’t support jobs for these pey. Between the two, YOU forced them to leave.
Fix your own country rather than criticizing ours. Our people aren’t desperate to escape. You can’t say the same.
