According to The New York Post, one viewer exclaimed, “This is insane!” while another ominously commented, “It is already happening.” The sighting has drawn heightened attention, particularly given its timing—just weeks after a congressional hearing delved into alleged covert government programs dealing with unidentified flying objects. Witnesses at the hearing discussed purported efforts to recover alien technology, communicate with non-human intelligences, and silence whistleblowers.

Despite the public frenzy, experts were quick to provide more grounded explanations. John Greenewald Jr., a ufologist and researcher, attributed the lights to a common optical illusion. He explained on Twitter, “The lights at the U.S. Capitol building have been causing ‘UFO sightings’ in the camera lens for decades. It’s just lens flares, but interesting that someone is passing them around again, and more so that people are buying it.
