White House Announces Melania’s Official Portrait

The White House has revealed the official portrait of First Lady Melania Trump, offering a striking black-and-white image that contrasts with her earlier, more colorful portraits.

Released on Monday, the photograph features Mrs. Trump in a tailored suit, standing poised in front of a desk with the Washington Monument visible through a window in the background. The portrait was captured by Régine Mahaux, a Belgian photographer who also took Mrs. Trump’s 2017 official portrait, according to multiple reports.

The First Lady’s Twitter account shared the image with the caption: “First Lady Melania Trump’s Official White House Portrait.” Unlike her 2017 photo, which showcased a vibrant, close-up image of her face, the new portrait adopts a wider frame, emphasizing her stature and surroundings.

This latest image joins the rich tradition of First Lady portraits, which began with Martha Washington’s oil painting. The White House Historical Association maintains a gallery of these iconic works, chronicling centuries of history.

On the same day, official portraits of President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance were also unveiled. Both photographs, presented in color, depict the leaders in blue suits and ties, standing before an American flag. These portraits were released ahead of the inauguration on January 17.

The First Lady recently garnered attention beyond the portrait release, becoming a trending topic on social media following her Inauguration Day appearance. Her choice of a hat with an oversized brim, which partially obscured her eyes, sparked widespread conversation and admiration for its bold style.

The new portrait symbolizes a continuation of tradition while highlighting the evolving aesthetic choices of America’s First Ladies.
