Ilhan Omar Plans To Impeach All Of Trump’s NatSec Leaders

A member of The Squad has begun preparations to undermine Donald Trump’s national security team. Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota plans to introduce articles of impeachment against three high-ranking Trump-era national security officials after a private Signal group chat accidentally revealed sensitive conversations about military operations in Yemen.

According to Axios, the officials targeted in Omar’s effort include former Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe. All three were involved in a group chat that discussed detailed plans for airstrikes on Houthi targets. The chat became public after Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, was mistakenly added and published parts of the conversation.

The disclosure has stirred controversy on Capitol Hill. Omar, a key member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus has quietly been gathering support from fellow Democrats for the impeachment. A senior House Democrat confirmed she has started laying the groundwork.

These Democrats seemed to have no problem with Joe Biden’s disastrous retreat from Afghanistan or when his Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, went missing in action for a few weeks in 2024.

The situation surfaced after Goldberg published an article Monday describing how he was accidentally included in the chat. While initial reports suggested vague strategic talk, Goldberg later released specific excerpts referencing times and targets reportedly linked to Hegseth. Some of those plans seem to have been carried out.

Despite the backlash, Trump-era officials defended their actions. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt praised the strikes on social media and credited former President Trump’s leadership, saying the key outcome was the elimination of terrorist threats, noted The Daily Caller.

Waltz appeared on Fox News to deny knowing Goldberg and suggested a technical glitch may have caused the breach. He also mentioned Elon Musk’s involvement in bringing in cybersecurity experts to investigate.

Ratcliffe testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee that using Signal for communication was officially approved and that the app came pre-installed on agency devices.

While Omar’s impeachment plan is still in its early stages and faces steep political resistance and has little chance of getting through the House of Representatives. What it does reveal, though, is how progressives will use anything for political gain, even if it undermines national security.
