Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) is drawing fire—and fueling fresh speculation about his political future—after calling for an end to U.S. military aid to Israel and accusing the Israeli government of killing “tens of thousands” of civilians in Gaza.
In a post on Twitter Massie declared that he’s joining the anti-Israel side of the aisle, pushing leftwing propaganda.
Nothing can justify the number of civilian casualties (tens of thousands of women and children) inflicted by Israel in Gaza in the last two years. We should end all U.S. military aid to Israel now.

In reality, Israel has been praised for how it has mitigated civilian deaths in its war against Hamas, a terrorist group that still holds hostages, including Americans, taken during the attack on October 7, 2023.
Last year, John Spencer, chair of urban warfare studies at the Modern War Institute at West Point, explained that “Israel’s opponents are erasing a remarkable, historic new standard Israel has set. In my long career studying and advising on urban warfare for the U.S. military, I’ve never known an army to take such measures to attend to the enemy’s civilian population, especially while simultaneously combating the enemy in the very same buildings. In fact, by my analysis, Israel has implemented more precautions to prevent civilian harm than any military in history—above and beyond what international law requires and more than the U.S. did in its wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
Critics blasted the post as misleading and incendiary, with several noting that Massie relied on Hamas-run sources for his casualty figures.
1. There’s no source for “tens of thousands of women and children” dead.
2. There’s no condemnation of Hamas terrorists (who are still holding Israeli hostages) anywhere on Massie’s page.

Massie has long been with the Squad when it comes to Israel. In October 2023, he was the only Republican to vote against a House resolution backing Israel’s war in Gaza. In November, he voted against a resolution affirming Israel’s right to exist.
But his latest statement comes amid new political pressure. Earlier this year, Donald Trump called for Massie to be primaried after he bucked House Republicans on a major spending vote. According to Semafor, the former president’s comments triggered a quiet campaign by GOP operatives to recruit a challenger. Some now suspect Massie is seeking cover by appealing to progressive, anti-interventionist voters who are increasingly vocal in opposition to U.S. military aid to Israel.
Thomas Massie has long maintained anti-war positions, but his latest remarks represent a more aggressive and public stance. Rather than simply casting a lone dissenting vote, he’s now pushing the issue into the spotlight—just as Donald Trump escalates efforts to unseat him, likely in hopes that the radical left will save him in the primary.
