Attorney General Pam Bondi on Friday dismissed Elizabeth Baxter, a Department of Justice paralegal, after investigators concluded she hurled profanities and obscene gestures at a National Guard member in the nation’s capital. It was the second firing of a DOJ paralegal under Bondi’s tenure this month.
The move comes on the heels of Washington’s mayor, Muriel Baxter, a Democrat, praising Trump’s decision to help her city fight crime.
Baxter, who worked in the DOJ’s environmental division, was first flagged on August 18 after allegedly boasting to a security guard about flipping off a Guardsman at the Metro Center stop and telling him, “F–k the National Guard,” according to The New York Post. Security cameras later caught her repeating the gesture outside the DOJ’s 4CON building in the NoMa district, shouting, “F–k you!” A week later, she reportedly bragged again, telling a guard she had told the National Guard to “F–k off.”
“Today, I took action to terminate a DOJ employee for inappropriate conduct towards National Guard service members in DC,” Bondi told the New York Post. “This DOJ remains committed to defending President Trump’s agenda and fighting to make America safe again. If you oppose our mission and disrespect law enforcement — you will NO LONGER work at DOJ.”
Following the internal inquiry, Bondi issued a formal termination letter removing Baxter from her paralegal specialist position, effective immediately.
The episode echoes the earlier dismissal of Sean Charles Dunn, another DOJ paralegal accused of throwing a sandwich at a Customs and Border Protection agent. Dunn faced a misdemeanor charge after a grand jury declined to indict him on a felony.
Both firings come as the Trump administration ramps up a federal law-and-order campaign in Washington, deploying additional agents and National Guard troops across the district to crack down on rising crime and to reinforce public safety.
