In a post on his Truth Social platform on Friday, Trump shared before-and-after photos of the makeover. “I renovated the Lincoln Bathroom in the White House,” he wrote. “It was renovated in the 1940s in an art deco green tile style, which was totally inappropriate for the Lincoln Era.”
Trump continued, “I did it in black and white polished Statuary marble. This was very appropriate for the time of Abraham Lincoln and, in fact, could be the marble that was originally there!”
The remodel replaces the green-tiled art deco scheme with gleaming white marble and gold accents, a stark contrast from the Truman-era design installed in 1945. President Harry Truman, who ordered that renovation after extensive structural repairs to the White House, favored a modern palette of blues and greens that Trump has long criticized as anachronistic.
Earlier this month, Trump previewed the project while announcing plans to restore the Lincoln Bedroom to what he described as “its rightful grandeur.” “It’s a style that is not good,” he said. “It is actually art deco and art deco doesn’t go with 1850 and civil wars.”
The Lincoln Bathroom renovation forms part of a broader White House overhaul that includes a far more ambitious—and controversial—project: the demolition of the East Wing to make way for a 90,000-square-foot ballroom.
