Nancy Pelosi’s personal fortune expanded on a scale rarely seen in public life, with her minimum net worth rising more than 2,200 percent over nearly four decades in Congress, according to a review of her financial disclosures.
Pelosi, who announced Thursday that she will leave Congress in 2027, entered the House in 1987 reporting a minimum net worth of $2.7 million. By 2024, that floor had climbed to nearly $64 million, based on asset and liability ranges listed in her filings. An outside assessment by Quiver Quantitative puts her current wealth far higher, at roughly $278.7 million, with her 2024 maximum net worth estimated at more than $311 million. Early disclosures from her first term did not require upper-range reporting, making precise comparisons difficult, according to The Daily Caller.
Much of the growth stems from stock-market investments managed by her husband, Paul Pelosi. In 2024 alone, the couple’s reported investment returns nearly doubled the S&P 500’s performance—an outcome that has fueled renewed criticism of congressional trading rules and longstanding allegations that lawmakers benefit from privileged access to nonpublic policy information. Pelosi’s office has rejected any implication of misconduct, maintaining that she does not own individual stocks, does not direct trades, and does not receive advance notice of transactions executed by her husband. The scrutiny intensified over the summer, when Pelosi endorsed Republican-backed legislation to ban stock trading by members of Congress as well as the president and vice president. The move came the same day former President Donald Trump publicly urged investigators to examine her trading record. The measure advanced through the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on July 30.
