Democrat Erupts at Treasury Secretary With Unhinged Rant

What typically would be a procedural briefing on financial stability turned into a spectacle of raised voices, sharp accusations and partisan frustration on Wednesday, as Democratic lawmakers repeatedly clashed with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent during a House Financial Services Committee hearing.

The session, convened to discuss the annual report of the Financial Stability Oversight Council, deteriorated into what observers described as a series of combative exchanges and unhinged rants from liberal members of Congress, reflecting deep Democratic anger with a Trump administration official they see as evasive and protective of the White Houses’s agenda, writes The Daily Caller.

At the hearing’s center was Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.), who pressed Bessent on whether the Treasury would pursue a review or halt regulatory actions related to a reported $500 million investment by entities tied to the United Arab Emirates in a cryptocurrency venture linked to the Trump family — a point of bitter contention for Democrats.

“Stop covering for the president!” Meeks shouted repeatedly, interrupting Bessent’s answers and demanding a simple yes-or-no. “Stop being his flunky! … Work for the American people!”

Meeks’s insistence on an unequivocal commitment drew loud objections from other members and prompted committee Chair Rep. French Hill (R-Ark.) to try to restore order. But the back-and-forth continued, and the tenor of the hearing shifted markedly from oversight to outright confrontation.

Other Democratic members also showed visible frustration. California Rep. Maxine Waters, at one point in the hearing, was caught on record asking whether someone could “shut him up” as Bessent responded to another line of questioning.

In sparring with Bessent, lawmakers accused the Treasury secretary — a Trump appointee — of deflecting questions about conflicts of interest and sidestepping substantive answers on issues ranging from cryptocurrency oversight to broader financial regulation.

Bessent, for his part, pushed back sharply on criticisms and did not shy from disagreeing with Democratic assertions. In a notable moment, he referenced past actions by Meeks while responding to queries, escalating tensions further.

The hearing’s confrontational atmosphere underscored the depth Democrats will go to try and create scandal while they’re out of power.

  1. “evasive and protective” describes anyone that dares to NOT support leftist agenda(s). It is all part and parcel of their ‘get Trump’ for any reason. Prove me wrong.
