A wanted fugitive who once worked on the security detail for U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat from Texas, was fatally shot late Wednesday night after a tense standoff with Dallas police SWAT officers, according to law enforcement sources and multiple media reports.
The man, publicly identified as Mike King—who authorities say also used several aliases, including possibly Michael King—was wanted on an outstanding warrant for impersonating a peace officer. Investigators say he operated a business that connected off-duty police officers with private security jobs while allegedly presenting himself as law enforcement in order to facilitate the work.
According to the Dallas Police Department, members of the department’s fugitive unit located King on the evening of March 11. Authorities say he fled and ultimately barricaded himself inside a vehicle parked in the garage of Children’s Medical Center Dallas shortly before midnight.
Police attempted to negotiate his surrender. When those efforts failed, SWAT officers deployed tear gas in an attempt to force him out of the vehicle. Officers say that when King finally emerged, he drew a firearm and pointed it at police.

SWAT officers opened fire. King was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured.
The incident has drawn attention because of King’s reported proximity to Rep. Crockett, a high-profile Democratic lawmaker who recently ran an unsuccessful campaign for a U.S. Senate seat.
Sources who spoke with CBS News Texas said King had been part of Crockett’s security team and had appeared near the congresswoman at public events. Photographs obtained by the outlet reportedly show him standing close to Crockett during several appearances. Records also indicate Crockett paid an individual identified as “Mike King” for security services in 2025.
King’s activities appear to have extended beyond personal protection work. According to law enforcement sources cited by CBS News Texas, he allegedly drove a replica undercover police vehicle outfitted with stolen military license plates and oversaw security operations at several downtown Dallas hotels as well as his church.
Investigators say King managed to obscure parts of his criminal background while operating the security business, raising questions about how individuals providing protection to elected officials are vetted.
Dallas police have not publicly confirmed the identity of the deceased suspect or officially acknowledged his connection to Crockett. The congresswoman has not issued a public statement regarding the incident as of March 14.
As with all police shootings, the case is now under review by the Dallas Police Department’s special investigations unit.
Hmm – makes ya wonder who did the hiring of this individual and what vetting process was used. I won’t even go into the judgement (or lack thereof) used in that process. Would that same level of care have been involved in her political operations, past and present.
