Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins urged President Donald Trump and Republican leaders in Congress on Saturday to take immediate action on abortion policy, warning that pro-life voters expect results as the 2026 midterm elections approach.
Speaking at the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s Road to Majority Conference in Washington, D.C., Hawkins said Republicans must move now to keep faith with the voters who helped return the party to power.
“Today, I’m going to say three things … President Trump … and his administration and Congress must do right now,” Hawkins said, according to the Daily Caller. “First, defund Planned Parenthood for good.”
Hawkins described Planned Parenthood, which provides abortions and certain medical interventions for gender-confused youth, as “the nation’s largest killer of children and the largest sterilizer of our gender-confused young people.”
She said a one-year federal funding restriction on Planned Parenthood, included in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act signed by Trump in July 2025, is set to expire on July 4. Without Senate action to renew it, Hawkins warned, the organization “stands to gain more than $600 million of our taxpayer dollars.”
Hawkins also called on the Senate to advance the SAVE America Act, a Trump-backed election integrity proposal.
Her second demand focused on enforcing existing federal law. Hawkins pointed to the Comstock Act of 1873, which prohibits the mailing of items “designed, adapted, or intended for producing abortion.”
“We must enforce the law that’s already on our books,” she said.
Hawkins argued that the statute is “being violated thousands of times every day when chemical abortion pills are being shipped into pro-life states … across the country.” She called on Trump to “issue a memo” directing enforcement against those shipments.
Hawkins then turned to the Food and Drug Administration, criticizing Biden-era policies that expanded access to chemical abortion pills and urging the Trump administration to act on mifepristone.
“The Biden-Harris FDA partnered with Planned Parenthood to flood our states … with chemical abortion pills, which are now the leading killer of children. What you don’t know is those pills are 22 times more dangerous than the FDA ever told us for women. One in 10 women will end up in [the] ER [hospital emergency room] with life-threatening complications,” she said.
“Not only are they killing babies and harming mothers, we have found they are polluting our drinking water supply,” Hawkins added. “The Trump FDA and EPA can act swiftly right now today to pull mifepristone from the shelves.”
Hawkins framed the demands as a test of whether Republican leaders will deliver for the coalition that put them in office. Political coalitions, she said, are “fragile things” that require action to survive.
She closed by saying pro-life voters should continue pressing elected officials for action.
“We must demand that President Trump and Congress speak up, because it’s not just lobbying firm, friends. We’re doers,” she stated.
