Things are about to go from bad to worse for Fani Willis, the DA prosecuting Donald Trump, and several others affiliated with his 2020 presidential campaign under RICO charges. The charges from Willis are related to the former president’s attempts to “find” votes in Georgia in the aftermath of losing reelection to the White House.
Willis, however, recently found herself in hot water after it was discovered that she had been using government funds to pay extravagant fees to a paramour.
USA Today reported that “a second person on Friday alleged that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis had an improper relationship with the private Atlanta lawyer Willis hired to lead the election fraud case against former President Donald Trump and 14 alleged co-conspirators.
Joycelyn Wade, the estranged wife of special prosecutor Nathan Wade, said in a court filing in their divorce case that Wade bought airline tickets in his name – and Willis’s – for trips to San Francisco and Miami and possibly elsewhere in 2022 and 2023. Nathan Wade was working on the high-profile case at the time and was married to Joycelyn Wade.”
Now a new ruling has the potential to embarrass Trump’s Atlanta tormentor further.
The Daily Beast reports:
A Georgia judge has ordered the divorce case of the special prosecutor in the Donald Trump election interference case unsealed amid allegations that he had a romance with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.
But Superior Court Judge Henry Thompson said he is not ready to rule on whether Willis will have to testify in the matrimonial battle between Nathan Wade and his estranged wife, Joycelyn Wade. Thompson will make his decision after Nathan Wade is deposed on Tuesday.
“[Willis] is trying to hide under the shield of her position improperly,” Andrea Hastings, an attorney for Joycelyn Wade, argued on Monday on behalf of her motion to subpoena Willis.
“Whatever her job is has nothing to do with whether she should sit for this deposition… I have questions and she needs to answer them,” Hastings added.
Willis allegedly disbursed over $650,000 of government funds to Wade for his work on the Trump election case, which paid for a lavish lifestyle, including romantic vacations with Willis to Napa Valley, Florida, and several Caribbean cruises.
It is not clear whether the allegations will see Willis removed from the case, but some have speculated that the scandal could see Trump’s case be significantly delayed or even thrown out.
