A police motorcycle accident occurred along the motorcade route of Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz in Georgia, temporarily halting the procession, as reported by The Washington Examiner.
The incident took place during Harris and Walz’s two-day bus tour of the state, which included a visit to Savannah State University, the oldest public historically Black university in Georgia. A pool report from the scene described a person lying on the pavement with visible blood nearby, indicating possible injuries. Another individual, likely a fellow officer, was seen assisting the injured person. The severity of the injuries is currently unknown.
Preliminary accounts suggest that the motorcycle may have lost control rather than collided with another object. The motorcade was paused for approximately three minutes before resuming, leaving behind a large white bus from the procession on the side of the highway.
The motorcade ultimately arrived at the vice president’s hotel at around 7:40 p.m. Upon arrival, Harris exited the vehicle, briefly greeted onlookers with, “Goodnight, everyone,” and entered the hotel, followed by Governor Walz.
This isn’t the first time that Harris has been involved in a wreck where her personal guard was not held to account.
The Mirror reported that “recently released records have shown that during a 2022 motorcade accident in Washington, D. C., the car carrying Vice President Kamala Harris “became momentarily airborne” after hitting a high curb. Initially, top Secret Service officials were incorrectly informed that it was “a mechanical failure.”
The documents reveal that despite the crash, the special agent driving Harris’s 2018 Chevrolet Suburban was excused from the defensive driving course usually required for Secret Service agents involved in accidents with official vehicles.
The head of the agency’s Vice Presidential Protective Division stated in a memo detailing the decision to exempt the agent that the accident occurred only after the driver – who has not been publicly named – moved the vehicle into an open traffic lane “to be in the proper motorcade alignment.”
‘As soon as she maneuvered to the right, the lane ended and immediately became a high curb,” according to the memo by the official, whose name is redacted. “The limo sustained damage to the right rear of the vehicle. No other property damage was incurred.'”
