The House Judiciary Committee is delving into whistleblower allegations that the FBI conducted a covert investigation targeting Donald Trump shortly after he announced his candidacy for the 2016 presidential election. According to a protected disclosure reported by The Washington Times, this operation was allegedly authorized by then-FBI Director James Comey and executed outside formal procedures.
The whistleblower asserts that the secretive probe began in June 2015, predating the FBI’s more widely known Crossfire Hurricane investigation into possible Russian interference in the 2016 election. This early operation reportedly involved two female undercover agents embedded within Trump’s campaign. Posing as “honeypots,” these agents allegedly traveled with Trump and his team to collect information.
Unlike Crossfire Hurricane, a counterintelligence investigation, this earlier operation was described as a criminal probe focusing directly on Trump and his campaign. The whistleblower claims the investigation was initiated without sufficient legal basis or documentation, likening it to a “fishing expedition” for damaging evidence.
The disclosure alleges that Mr. Comey directed the operation personally, circumventing standard FBI protocols that require the documentation of cases in the FBI’s Sentinel system. The report also implicates Deputy Director Dave Bowdich and Paul Abbate, then the assistant director of the Washington field office, in supporting the secret initiative.
The whistleblower further alleges that the investigation was hidden from Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz, who later criticized the FBI’s handling of the Crossfire Hurricane investigation for its numerous procedural failures.
Former FBI Assistant Director Chris Swecker described the alleged operation as a severe breach of Justice Department rules, citing the absence of clear legal grounds for infiltrating a presidential campaign. He characterized the allegations as a “shocking” misuse of FBI authority.
The operation was reportedly terminated after a photograph of one undercover agent was leaked to a media outlet. Following the leak, the FBI allegedly misled the press by claiming the agent was merely an informant. To further cover up the operation, one agent was reportedly reassigned to the CIA, and another FBI employee involved in the initiative was promoted.
The Judiciary Committee has confirmed receipt of the whistleblower’s claims and has pledged to investigate. Attempts by The Times to obtain comments from the FBI and Mr. Comey have so far been unsuccessful.
This is illegal and needs to be prosecuted under the next Attorney General. Restore our country’s faith in our government. Hold the criminals responsible for their crimes.
Absolutely spot on. Activities by people in the DOJ against anybody need to have legitimate cause not pure political bias. Comey and everyone involved MUST be prosecuted with the kind of vigor used by all the phony state prosecutors for the past 8 years against Trump. This includes Pelosi and her mob of communists in the House. The kinds of punishment MUST to equal to the seriousness of the crimes by the Law Enforcement and Intelligence agencies using their power against whomever they decided to politically attack. . Until these people are behind bars or terminated these agencies will never regain any respect or trust. These are communist dictator type acts of treason and America cannot co-exist with communist traitors in the government itself.
Can we Prosecute him & allies
