Cartels along the U.S.-Mexico border have reportedly escalated their threats against American law enforcement, authorizing the use of weaponized drones to target Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers. This development coincides with a surge in violent rhetoric on social media, where multiple posts have called for attacks on ICE personnel, prompting federal agencies to take immediate security precautions.
In response to these threats, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has circulated internal memos warning personnel of the rising danger. Sources told News Nation that one of these memos details three specific social media posts encouraging violence, including explicit calls for assassination, contamination of officers’ food, and other direct threats. Another memo reportedly warns that cartels have granted permission to deploy explosive-laden drones against law enforcement. Given this emerging risk, officials have urged agents to heighten their awareness, wear ballistic protection, and be prepared to use long firearms when necessary.
Former acting ICE Director Tom Homan, who now advises on border policy, has highlighted the seriousness of the situation. He revealed that sensitive intelligence leaks have already forced law enforcement to alter planned operations in major cities like Chicago. According to Homan, these breaches compromise officer safety and make it imperative to maintain secrecy regarding enforcement actions.
“We have many target cities, but I’m not going to share them because we need to keep our officers safe,” Homan stated. “We need the element of surprise to protect them. We don’t want the bad guys knowing we’re coming.”
The use of drones as weapons has become an increasingly common tactic in modern conflicts, and U.S. officials fear that cartels are now adapting these strategies for their own purposes.
Last August the Mexican army admitted that some of its soldiers had been killed by bombs dropped from drones operated by the cartel.
Defense Secretary Gen. Luis Cresencio Sandoval did not provide precise numbers, but said almost all of the violence occurred in the western state of Michoacan.
“Our personnel have suffered wounds, and some of our troops have even died” in the attacks, Sandoval said. The army had previously acknowledged that soldiers had been wounded in Michoacan by improvised explosive devices, or IEDs.
Sandoval did not say when the attacks took place, but suggested they targeted patrol units. He said the army was acquiring anti-drone systems to combat the threat, noted The Associated Press.
“What we are seeking with this anti-drone equipment is to have the security capability, which we lack, for our personnel performing reconnaissance and patrols,” Sandoval said.
One of the first moves by President Trump after taking office was to designate the cartels as terrorist organizations, and congressoinal Republicans want to make it permanent, according to The Daily Caller.
“House Republicans plan to introduce a bill that would officially designate several major Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations (FTOs), legislation that would make President Donald Trump’s executive order more permanent.
The Drug Cartel Terrorist Designation Act calls for labeling the Sinaloa Cartel, the Gulf Cartel, the Cartel Del Noreste and the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion as FTOs, according to legislation obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation. The legislation would additionally require the State Department to issue a report to Congress on these criminal organizations and any other cartels that meet the standard of an FTO designation.”

One dead Border Control agent cause by a cartel drone can and should start a war between the U.S. military and the Mexican cartels. This is exactly what Mexico needs to get rid of the cartels once nad for all. Trump and the Mexican president Sheinbaum have been talking and sshe seems like a very intelligent and reasonable women. She does need help in dealing with the cartels and her own Federalies who seem to be complicit in cartel activity. The cartels will not win this fight.
