Senator Mitch McConnell has suffered yet another fall—his second in recent weeks—further amplifying questions about his health and political future. Despite the unsettling scene, sources indicate he was able to walk away without serious injury.
Fox News reported that other senators helped pick the former Majority Leader up and helped him get back on his feet.
Former Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., fell on a small set of stairs on Wednesday as he was exiting the Senate chamber after a confirmation vote for Housing and Urban Development secretary nominee Scott Turner.
McConnell, who is 82 years old and a survivor of childhood Polio, fell down the stairs and was quickly assisted by Sens. Steve Daines, R-Mont., and Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla.
It is not clear whether he suffered any injuries, but Fox News was told the former leader appears to be OK.
The incident follows a December 2024 collapse during a GOP lunch in Washington, D.C., where McConnell sustained a facial laceration and a sprained wrist. That fall, in turn, came after a more serious episode in March 2023, when he suffered a concussion and fractured rib after falling at a private dinner—an injury that sidelined him from the Senate for six weeks. Compounding concerns, McConnell froze up twice in public press conferences later that year, fueling speculation about his cognitive and physical well-being. In an attempt to reassure the public, the Capitol’s attending physician, Dr. Brian Monahan, examined McConnell in September 2023 and found no evidence of a seizure disorder, stroke, or Parkinson’s disease. Yet the senator’s repeated public stumbles—and their political implications—remain impossible to ignore.
The latest fall has reinvigorated calls for McConnell’s resignation. One conservative commentator said, “Mitch McConnell spotted again in a wheelchair after his multiple falls today.
Enough is enough my word.”

Former Trump campaign attorney Jenna Ellis echoed the sentiment: “Mitch McConnell has to resign.” Yet the senator has remained unmoved by such demands. Though he stepped down as Senate Republican leader in November 2024, McConnell has given no indication that he intends to leave office before his term expires in January 2027.
