Former President Joe Biden appeared in public over Labor Day weekend with a visible head wound, igniting new concerns about the 82-year-old’s health as he continues treatment for advanced cancer. The red gash, partly obscured by his thinning white hair, was captured on video as Biden greeted congregants outside a Rehoboth Beach church.
The footage, filmed by political activist Fred Karger and posted online, quickly spread across social media, writes The New York Post. Karger described the wound as “fresh and pronounced,” suggesting it could be linked to recent medical procedures. Biden’s aides later confirmed he had undergone Mohs surgery, a meticulous treatment for skin cancer, though they declined to specify the date of the operation.

It is not Biden’s first bout with skin cancer. In February 2023, doctors removed a basal cell carcinoma from his chest. But his current health struggles extend far deeper. This spring, physicians diagnosed him with Stage 4 prostate cancer that has metastasized to his bones, a finding critics say earlier White House medical evaluations had failed to detect.
Biden’s health has long been a matter of public contention. In early 2024, his physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, declared him “fit to serve” after a routine examination at Walter Reed. That assurance has since been overshadowed by revelations of his cancer diagnosis and by accusations that the administration withheld information about his cognitive and physical decline during his presidency.
The bandage Biden wore at former Delaware Governor Mike Castle’s funeral in late August suggested his latest surgery may have occurred around that time. His team has offered no further details on his prognosis, and Biden himself has not addressed the wound publicly.
The sight of the frail former president, battling both visible and hidden illnesses, has revived debates over transparency in the medical disclosures of national leaders—and how the media covers it.
