An Israeli security expert is forecasting the imminent collapse of Iran’s ruling regime, predicting a dramatic regional realignment and the possibility of near-term U.S.-led military action.
Speaking Tuesday at a news event hosted by The Jerusalem Post, Amir Avivi, chairman of the Israel Defense and Security Forum and a retired brigadier general in the Israel Defense Forces, said developments over the past month have convinced him that Tehran’s leadership is nearing its end.
“Today I can say something we couldn’t have said a month ago: this regime is going down. There will be no Iranian regime, and this is going to change entirely the future of Israel,” Avivi said.

He went further, predicting external military involvement alongside internal unrest. “And indeed, I think that we’ll see in the very near future a massive American attack, with the help of Israel and with the demonstrators. I think this regime stands no chance, and they will fall,” he added.
Avivi’s remarks come amid persistent reports of protests and internal dissent inside Iran, fueling renewed debate over the stability of the Islamic Republic. He suggested that domestic opposition could converge with foreign pressure to accelerate regime collapse.
The Israel Defense and Security Forum, which Avivi chairs, is known for advocating robust defense policies and regional alliances. Framing the potential fall of Iran’s government as a strategic turning point, Avivi argued it would fundamentally reshape Israel’s long-term security environment.
Avivi’s remarks follow new signals from Donald Trump, who this week told Iranian protesters that “help is on its way,” suspending talks with Tehran and intensifying speculation that U.S. pressure—covert or overt—could soon expand.
For now, Avivi’s assertion remains speculative. Still, his insistence that such predictions were impossible just weeks ago points to what he views as rapidly shifting dynamics inside Iran—developments that, if borne out, could mark one of the most consequential moments in Middle Eastern politics in decades.
