According to the Department of Homeland Security, Noem—age 53 and a fixture in President Donald Trump’s second-term Cabinet—was taken to George Washington University Hospital “out of an abundance of caution.” DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin confirmed Noem is “alert and recovering well,” though the agency released no further information on the nature or cause of the reaction, noted CNN, which first broke the news.
Outside the hospital, a visible security perimeter formed as Secret Service agents sealed off entrances and managed press inquiries, a reminder of the Secretary’s stature within the federal government’s security hierarchy.
