Anti-Gun Group Refuses To Drop Dem Who Threatened To ‘Shoot’ GOP Leader

Jay Jones, the Democratic nominee for Virginia attorney general, is facing backlash after text messages surfaced showing him expressing violent threats toward a Republican colleague. The revelations have left Everytown for Gun Safety—the nation’s largest gun control group and one of Jones’s biggest financial backers—struggling to respond, writes The Washington Free Beacon.

Jones, a former state delegate, received $200,000 from Everytown on August 26 and was hailed as an “advocate for safer communities” and a “Gun Sense Candidate.” But as National Review revealed, in 2022 Jones texted Republican Delegate Carrie Coyner that then–House Speaker Todd Gilbert deserved “two bullets to the head.” He later accused Gilbert of “breeding little fascists” and wished death on his children.

Everytown—heavily funded by Michael Bloomberg and other Democratic donors—has refused to comment despite repeated inquiries from The Free Beacon. The group has invested millions in Virginia politics, calling the state a “proving ground for the gun safety movement.” Just last week, it launched a $1 million ad campaign for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger, a former Moms Demand Action member.

The episode has unsettled Virginia Democrats. Spanberger, who appeared with Jones and lieutenant governor nominee Ghazala Hashmi at the Buena Vista Labor Day Festival, said she “spoke frankly with Jay about my disgust with what he had said and texted” but stopped short of urging him to quit, lest she anger her party’s leftwing base that has grown more and more accepting of violence over the past few years.

Meanwhile, Brady PAC—named for former White House press secretary James Brady, who was wounded during the attempt to assassinate Ronald Regan—has quietly removed Jones from its endorsements. On Friday, it posted that “violent rhetoric has no place in our political process,” without naming him. Giffords PAC, which gave Jones $1,000 in July, has remained silent.

  1. Yet another graphic example of just how two faced ‘gun control’ groups really are – they don’t want anyone else – except the ‘authorities’ or groups/individuals they ‘approve’ of and are more than willing to resort to any and all forms of violence to enforce their utopian ideals on anyone who dares to disagree with them.
