Lisa Murkowski Considers Leaving GOP

The Senate Republicans may soon be down a member. Lisa Murkowski, a Republican from Alaska, has indicated that she may soon be jumping ship. A loud critic of Trump, she recently spoke about her consideration to become an independent.

This is not the first time Murkowski has shown an independent streak. In 2010, she retained her Senate seat despite losing the Republican primary when she became one of two people to ever win a write-in campaign for Senate.

The Hill reports that the Alaska senator is planning out her next moves.

“I wish that as Republicans, we had a nominee that I could get behind. I certainly can’t get behind Donald Trump,” she said in an interview on “Inside Politics With Manu Raju.”

When asked if she is considering an independent run, the Alaska lawmaker kept her cards close to her chest, telling Raju, “Oh, I think I’m very independent-minded. I just regret that our party is seemingly becoming a party of Trump.”

Pressed further on whether she is “officially” considering an independent bid, she said, “I am navigating my way through some very interesting political times, so let’s just leave it at that.”

The interview comes after the Alaska Republican said earlier this month that she “could not” vote for either Trump or President Biden, who are their respective parties’ presumptive nominees.

Murkowski has long voted against Republicans and in support for Democrats. Fox News wrote that she “supported the confirmation of Biden-nominated Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court, one of three Republicans to do so, as previously reported by Fox News Digital.

CNN also asked Murkowski to respond to Trump referring to January 6 prisoners as ‘hostages’ and ‘patriots.’

‘I don’t think that it can be defended,” Murkowski said. “What happened on January 6 was … an effort by people who stormed the building in an effort to stop an election certification of an election. It can’t be defended.'”

Murkowski has served in the Senate since 2002, when she was appointed to her position by her father, Alaska Governor Frank Murkowski.

  1. Congresswoman Murkowski needs to resign immediately. She is another RINO who thinks she can play a game with politics. Politicians are the problem.  We need warrior veterans, doctors, and business people. Forget lawyers; they are the worst. We need leadership, not liarship. Too many politicians are nothing but full blown hypocrites and liars, which is another problem that has been going on for years. If you haven’t heard the word “narcissism,” then you need to study it because that is what we have now.

  2. Murkowski is a great example of what is wrong within the Republican Party. Until we stop electing these democrats pretending to be republicans.

  3. She successfully fooled Alaskans with ranked choice voting. Her values(or lack thereof) are much more in line with Schumer than with republicans.
