Biden Lays Tariffs Against China, Emulating Trump

Almost everything that Biden attacked Trump for doing during the 2020 campaign ends up being something he enacts himself while sitting in the White House in 2024.

In 2020, during an “exchange with Lulu Garcia-Navarro, who hosts Weekend Edition Sunday and is a host of National Public Radio’s (NPR) morning news podcast Up First.

‘Some have said Trump’s stance is a good one to counter China’s influence,’ said Garcia-Navarro. ‘Would you keep the tariffs?’

‘No. Hey, look, who said Trump’s idea’s a good one?’ said Biden. ‘Manufacturing has gone into a recession. Agriculture lost billions of dollars that taxpayers had to pay.’

Biden continued: “We’re going after China in the wrong way,” he said. “China is stealing intellectual property. China is conditioning being able to do business in China based on whether or not you have 51% Chinese ownership. That’s got to end. I spent a fair amount of time when I was vice president with President Xi because the president wanted me to get to know him. He’s no democrat with a small ‘d’ at all.”

Now, as he struggles for reelection, Biden has announced a new round of tariffs against Chinawrites The Washington Examiner.

President Joe Biden is upping the ante in his trade war with China — and with former President Donald Trump.

“The president is taking important enforcement action to raise tariffs in key sectors under Section 301 of our trade laws that will make sure that historic investments in jobs spurred by President Biden’s actions are not undercut by a flood of unfairly underpriced exports from China,” National Economic Council Director Lael Brainard said Monday.

The Biden administration has announced it will raise tariffs on certain Chinese steel and aluminum products from 7.25% to 25% this year, on electric vehicles from 25% to 100%, and on semiconductors from 25% to 50% next year.

“American workers and businesses can outcompete anyone — as long as they have fair competition,” reads a fact sheet announcing the changes. “But for too long, China’s government has used unfair, non-market practices.”

Biden has previously handed out billions in subsidies to China after his allegedly received a huge sum of cash from people connected to the CCP, but with his approvals sinking, he’s changed his tune.

USA Today reported that “the Biden administration has for months accused China of unfair trade practices by flooding the global markets with goods at artificially low prices, putting U.S. manufacturing of electric vehicles, microchips and other goods at a steep disadvantage.

Lael Brainard, director of the National Economic Council in the White House, said the objective of the higher tariffs is to ‘make sure that historic investments in jobs spurred by President Biden’s actions are not undercut by a flood of unfairly underpriced exports from China.'”

China has used Biden’s weakness over the past few years to make moves in the Western Hemisphere, including spying on American military bases across the North American continent and using its power to create special “economic zones” in the Caribbean.

The Pentagon recently expressed concern about China setting up shop in the small island of Antigua under the president’s watch.
