Several senators have called for new leadership at the Secret Service after they received a briefing about the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump over the weekend.
“This was a 100% cover-your-ass briefing,” Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., posted on Twitter. “Someone has died. The President was almost killed. The head of the Secret Service needs to go.”
The calls are completely justifiable.
The Daily Mail revealed that the Secret Service let Donald Trump take the stage despite knowing there was a likely assassin on the loose, ready to take his best shot.
Members of Congress learned that the would-be Donald Trump assassin Thomas Crooks was spotted by Secret Service 10 minutes before he walked out onstage, and 20 minutes before he was shot.
On Saturday, 20-year-old Crooks shot multiple rounds at Trump, clipping his ear, injuring multiple attendees and tragically killing former firefighter Corey Comperatore.
After waiting days to learn more of the assassination attempt, lawmakers were briefed by the FBI and Secret Service Wednesday on key details about the ongoing investigation.
Sources on the call told DailyMail.com that over an hour passed from the shooter being spotted to his initial shot. Even more troubling, Secret Service counter snipers saw Crooks on the roof 20 minutes before he shot the former president.
Crooks trying to kill former President Trump is the first assassination attempt on a former or current US president in 43 years.
The news angered many Republican senators, who followed United States Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle as she tried to run away from the Republican National Convention that she had been monitoring.

Barrasso’s tweet and actions at the Republican convention particularly standout. The senator from Wyoming, an orthopedist, is not known as a rabble-rouser, attention-seeking politician.

The fact that the shooter was known and spotted on the roof mere minutes before he took several shot is all the evidence needed to get rid of the Director maybe even charging her with being a co-conspirator. This person is guilty of something. With all of the information floating around including everyone on that radio channel hearing about the shooter, and Trump was allowed to get on the podium ??? The Director was an accomplice to the attempted assassination of Trump. No doubt in my mind after everything I saw on video and heard from people there. . She needs to be charged.
Why was she at RNC anyway?
Who invited her, Not the Trumps & Vances for sure
Bad Optics post shooting
SR – I had the same thought – did she self invite? Seems to me that even showing her face there demonstrates how clueless she really is. IMHO she has done nothing but try to cover her backside and blame anyone else she can point her fingers at. She could have ‘monitored’ the activities remotely.
Head Of Secret Service has flees??
