It’s unlike anything he’s ever seen. In a sharp critique of the Democratic Party’s current position with voters, former Clinton pollster Mark Penn warned that the party’s support is declining at an unprecedented pace. During a Friday night appearance on Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle, Penn suggested that Democrats are facing a growing crisis of voter confidence following their significant defeat to former President Donald Trump in the 2024 election.
Penn, hinting at results from a forthcoming poll scheduled for release on February 24, described the party’s approval ratings as plummeting. He stated that the Democratic Party is, in his words, “falling off a cliff,” highlighting that approval ratings, which had once remained in the high forties, had now dropped to around thirty-five percent, writes The Daily Caller.
According to Penn, recent polls reveal that Trump is viewed more favorably in retrospective job performance comparisons against President Joe Biden, with fifty-seven percent of those surveyed rating Trump’s presidency more positively. Penn explained that there is a growing reevaluation of Biden’s leadership and the direction the Democratic Party has taken, adding that the decline in support is even more severe now than it was on election day.
In response to the ongoing political fallout, the Democratic National Committee met on February 1 to elect new leadership, choosing Ken Martin, chairman of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, as the new DNC chair, along with anti-gun activist David Hogg as a party vice chair.
As always when Democrats lose, the new party leadership appears to have zero self-reflection. Martin rejected the idea that the party’s policy positions were to blame, instead attributing the losses to failures in messaging, noted Politico.
Penn has been pointing out for over a year the problems Democrats have, especially with a media so biased toward them that it undermines their arguments. In October 2024, he called for CBS News to release the full “60 Minutes” interview of Kamala Harris, which was clearly edited to try and make her look like she understood the complexities of public policy.
Last September he also criticized ABC News for “rigging” the debate between Trump and Harris to help the then vice president get over the finish line.
