Boston Children’s Hospital Under FBI Investigation

The FBI has opened federal investigations into three of the nation’s most prominent children’s hospitals—Boston Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and Children’s Hospital Colorado—over allegations that they performed genital mutilation on minors under the guise of gender-affirming care. The probes, first reported by Fox News, are the first high-profile enforcement actions taken under a January 2025 executive order issued by President Donald Trump reclassifying certain transgender-related procedures as violations of federal law prohibiting female genital mutilation.

At the heart of the crackdown is a reinterpretation of 18 U.S.C. § 116, a statute originally designed to combat ritualistic FGM practices, now applied to what the administration calls the “chemical and surgical mutilation” of children. Attorney General Pam Bondi, spearheading the effort, said the policy reflects a commitment to shielding minors from “irreversible harm.” The Justice Department has urged the public to report hospitals or clinicians suspected of performing these procedures—a move that critics see as unprecedented government overreach into established medical standards.

At Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, the fallout has already begun. On June 13, the hospital shuttered its nationally recognized Center for Transyouth Health and Development, citing pressure from anticipated funding losses. Administrators warned that the institution—California’s most federally dependent pediatric hospital—faced unsustainable risks if it continued offering gender-transition procedures. The program had served over a thousand families and its closure marks a dramatic retreat in the face of legal and political pressure.

Court battles are almost certain to follow. Federal judges have previously blocked efforts by the Trump administration to curtail gender-related medical care, citing constitutional concerns. Whether the application of anti-FGM laws to gender-affirming surgeries survives legal scrutiny remains an open—and volatile—question. But for now, children’s hospitals that once stood at the forefront of transgender care face a stark new reality: federal scrutiny, political risk, and the specter of criminal charges.

This isn’t the first time that major hospitals have been criticized for hurting children under the rubric of care. In 2023, a whistleblower at Washington University Transgender Center released bombshell testimony revelaing that the hospital wasn’t offering treatment, but instead pushing the sterilization of children as a fulfillment of transgender ideology.

Jamie Reed, a 42-year-old native of St. Louis who was an ardent Bernie Sanders supporter, said she worked as a case manager at the Transgender Center from 2018 to 2022. In her public testimony, she claimed that little is needed to convince the doctors at Washington University that children should begin transitioning. A letter of support from a therapist “who they had to see only once or twice for the green light” is all that’s required. Then the kids could be sent to an endocrinologist for a testosterone prescription.

’To make it more efficient for the therapists, we offered them a template for how to write a letter in support of transition,’ she wrote.

Reed also slammed the center for downplaying possible negative consequences on both boys and girls — including suicide.

“Being put on powerful doses of testosterone or estrogen — enough to try to trick your body into mimicking the opposite sex — affects the rest of the body,” she wrote. “I doubt that any parent who’s ever consented to give their kid testosterone (a lifelong treatment) knows that they’re also possibly signing their kid up for blood pressure medication, cholesterol medication, and perhaps sleep apnea and diabetes.”

As the legal landscape shifts, the broader future of transgender healthcare for minors in the United States remains uncertain—caught between a reinvigorated federal policy and a medical profession standing its ground.

  1. Now we will begin to see a flood of law suits from children surgically modified because the surgeries did not change their problems. The doctors and hospitals knew this but could only see the $$$$ they were going to make. These sick doctors and hospitals need to be made to pay as much as a real court will allow.

  2. Kids can’t drive until they’re 16, can’t vote until 18, and can’t drink until 21 but it’s ok to convince even younger girls that FGM wil change them to something they’re not, and young boys will grow up as eunuchs.
