U.S. immigration authorities have detained and begun deportation proceedings against Sami Hamdi, a man accused of links to the Muslim Brotherhood, following his arrest over the weekend at San Francisco International Airport. The move marks part of the Trump administration’s intensified efforts to block entry by foreign nationals deemed potential national security threats, according to multiple reports.
Hamdi, described by officials as having connections to extremist networks, was apprehended in an intelligence-driven operation. His visa was revoked, and he was transferred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody pending removal from the United States.
Tricia McLaughlin, a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, credited senior officials for their role in the enforcement action.

Prior to his detention, Hamdi reportedly traveled through multiple states facilitating gatherings and training sessions associated with groups linked to the Muslim Brotherhood. According to investigative journalist Laura Loomer, citing sources within DHS, Hamdi was en route to Tampa, Florida, to lead “an event for a jihadist, pro-Hamas, and Muslim Brotherhood 501(c)(3) group.”
Journalist Amy Mek also outlined Hamdi’s activities, alleging his involvement in “training U.S. Muslims in digital agitation, electoral sabotage, and political warfare in alignment with the Muslim Brotherhood doctrine.” Mek further claimed Hamdi “is not a commentator passing through America — he is a deployed actor from an overseas cadre system that grooms Western Muslims for on-shore mobilization.”
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) condemned the deportation as “an injustice,” urging his release and accusing the administration of prioritizing “an Israel First policy, not an America First policy.”
Officials dismissed those accusations, asserting that Hamdi’s visa violations and affiliations justified his removal. The deportation underscores the administration’s hard-line stance toward individuals connected to terrorism-related organizations — a policy that marks a sharp contrast with earlier border enforcement approaches.
Coordinated between the State Department under Secretary Marco Rubio and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, the operation signals what officials described as a “clear message” that the United States will not harbor international agents affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood or similar extremist movements.
The move is a major signal of change from American leadership. President Trump recently noted on the official timeline of the White House that President Barack Obama welcomed the Muslim Brotherhood to the United States and met with them in the executive mansion.
