Former Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police officer Michael Fanone, who rose to national prominence after the January 6, 2021, mobbing of the Capitol, is facing sharp backlash after urging Americans to “organize and utilize their 2nd Amendment right” in response to federal immigration enforcement actions.
Fanone’s remarks, a favorite among Democrats, delivered in a viral video clip, came days after the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent during a deportation operation in south Minneapolis on January 7.
In the clip, Fanone described ICE as an “unaccountable and lawless agency that’s killing Americans,” rejecting calls for calm demonstrations. “Fuck you and fuck that,” he said, arguing that citizens should be prepared to take armed action if law enforcement fails to protect their communities.
Online critics accused Fanone of promoting violence against federal authorities, with some calling for his arrest on charges ranging from incitement to sedition. No official action has been announced.

The controversy is inseparable from the circumstances surrounding Good’s death. Video released from the perspective of the ICE agent reveals that Good was not scared and that she and her wife were purposeful in confronting the federal agents. She was previously trained as a “warrior” activist.

The video also revealed that Good backed up her car to place the officer in front of it and that her partner yelled “drive, baby, drive” before striking the officer with her vehicle. Studies have shown that liberals have become more and more accepting of political violence.
Minnesota leaders have sharply disputed that account, despite the video evidence. Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey accused federal authorities of spreading propaganda and demanded ICE withdraw from the city.
Good’s killing has sparked protests and vigils across Minneapolis. Last night, leftwing activists swarmed a hotel that they believed ICE agents were staying in. Local law enforcement allegedly failed to intervene to protect property and life.

Barricades, clashes with federal agents, and school closures followed as Minnesota placed the National Guard on standby. Additional federal personnel have been deployed as part of President Donald Trump’s expanded deportation initiatives in his second term.
