In a striking political family feud, Jeff Walz, the older brother of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, has publicly opposed his sibling’s vice-presidential bid on the 2024 Democratic ticket. Jeff Walz, who donated to Donald Trump’s campaign in 2016, recently expressed his disapproval of his brother’s political ideology through a series of Facebook posts, originally reported by The New York Post.
The 67-year-old brother, who resides in the Florida Panhandle, made it clear that he is “100% opposed” to Tim Walz’s political beliefs. “Not the type of character you want making decisions about your future,” Jeff remarked, emphasizing his dissatisfaction with his brother’s role in national politics.
The brothers have been estranged for eight years, a rift that Jeff alluded to in his posts but did not fully explain. The discord appears to have deepened as Tim Walz’s political career advanced, culminating in his recent selection as Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate on the Democratic ticket.
Jeff Walz has not ruled out the possibility of endorsing Trump in the upcoming presidential race. When encouraged by another Facebook user to join Trump on stage for an endorsement, Jeff revealed that he has seriously considered the idea. “I’ve thought long and hard about doing something like that! I’m torn between that and just keeping my family out of it,” he wrote.
Governor Tim Walz, 60, has been a fixture in Democratic politics for over two decades, having started his political journey with John Kerry’s 2004 presidential campaign. After serving 12 years in Congress, he was elected governor of Minnesota in 2018. His recent elevation to the national stage as Harris’s running mate has further highlighted the political divide within the Walz family, with Jeff now seemingly poised to support Trump’s 2024 bid.
