The Trump campaign has launched a lawsuit against Democratic-run Nevada, expressing concern that the state is not doing enough to prevent noncitizens from being included on voter registration rolls. The legal action, filed on Thursday, argues that Democratic Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar has not taken sufficient measures to safeguard the integrity of the vote.
Joining the Trump campaign in this lawsuit are the Nevada GOP, the Republican National Committee (RNC), and a voter from Clark County. The suit NB is directed against Aguilar, the Democratic National Committee, and the Nevada Democratic Party.

The lawsuit is a dispute to former Republican Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske’s review of the Nevada Republican Party’s alleged evidence of voter fraud in the 2020 election. In 2021, Cegavske said she did not find “evidentiary support for the contention that the 2020 general election was plagued by widespread voter fraud.”
The Trump campaign and its allies are now arguing that Cegavske’s findings were based on a faulty interpretation of prior Supreme Court cases.

Secretary Aguilar has refuted the GOP’s claims, asserting that Nevada already has robust safeguards in place to prevent ineligible individuals, including noncitizens, from voting. “Any claims of a widespread problem are false and only create distrust in our elections,” Aguilar’s office stated in response to the lawsuit.
This is the second time a Democrat in a swing state has appeared to defend illegal voting.
Despite their legal challenge, the Nevada GOP and the RNC have recently praised the Secretary of State’s office for removing over 76,000 inactive voters from the state’s active voter list in August, a move they say ensures election integrity.
As Nevada emerges as a crucial battleground in the 2024 presidential election, both former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris have underscored the state’s significance. Trump, who narrowly lost Nevada in the 2016 and 2020 elections, is scheduled to hold a rally in Las Vegas, emphasizing his focus on election security as a key issue in his campaign.
