For Impeachment Lawyer Put On Hot Spot Over Hunter Pardon

In a heated discussion on CNN Monday, Democratic Representative Dan Goldman of New York got a little warm under the collar during intense scrutiny over his earlier assertions that President Joe Biden would not pardon his son, Hunter Biden. The questions followed Sunday night’s announcement of the controversial pardon, in which President Biden defended his decision, claiming his son had been “singled out” by political opponents aiming to “break” them in court.

CNN host Brianna Keilar revisited Goldman’s comments from July 2023, made after the collapse of Hunter Biden’s plea agreement. At the time, Goldman had confidently stated, “I don’t think there’s any chance that President Biden is going to do that [issue a pardon].” Goldman’s remarks then highlighted the administration’s commitment to the independence of the Department of Justice, a sharp contrast to what he characterized as former President Donald Trump’s politically motivated pardons for allies.

Pressed on his earlier stance, Goldman sought to explain, noted Mediaite. “If that plea agreement and that plea deal had gone through, there would be no pardon,” he said. Keilar countered, pointing out that the plea deal had already failed when Goldman made his initial remarks. “You took him at his word,” she said. “How does it feel, knowing he reversed course?”

Goldman, who led the lawfare against Donald Trump, defended the shift, attributing it to what he described as an unprecedented legal process shaped by partisan interference. “This case is very unique and very different from any other case,” he said, arguing that Hunter Biden’s status as the president’s son heavily influenced the charges brought against him. “I’ve said many times that if Hunter Biden were not Hunter Biden, he would never be charged with these crimes.”

Ultimately, Goldman stood by the president’s decision, portraying it as a safeguard against potential misuse of the Department of Justice by future administrations. “The president fears that his successor may target his son,” Goldman concluded.

Biden pardoned his son for crimes he “may” have committed over the past 11 years, a number so “oddly specific” it even drew a comment Jon Stewart, who lambasted Democrats for defending it.

Critics have accused President Biden of undermining his stated commitment to judicial independence, but some have argued that the president may have accidentally given the GOP a chance to root out his family’s corruption. With the pardon, Hunter has lost his 5th Amendment rights and could be compelled to implicate his father and other family members.

  1. Anybody that believed “the Big Guy” when he stated several times that he would not pardon Hunter was a demonRAT or a liberal or both. As soon a one conviction on anything occurred all bets were off. Something must be done by legislation to make sure a political figure given the job of president does not include “OMNIPOTENCE”.
