Minnesota Woman Shot By ICE Was Trained Anti-Ice ‘Warrior’

A Minneapolis woman fatally shot by a federal immigration agent during an enforcement operation Wednesday had ties to a local network that monitors Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity, according to community members and authorities.

Renee Nicole Good, 37, was killed January 7 during a federal operation in south Minneapolis. Authorities said Good drove her SUV toward an officer, prompting agents to fire three shots that struck her in the head. Her partner, Rebecca, was outside the vehicle at the time. The shooting remains under investigation.

Good had moved to Minneapolis within the past year with her partner and their young son after briefly relocating to Canada following the 2024 election, writes The New York Post. Community members said she became involved with a loosely organized group known as “ICE Watch,” which tracks and responds to immigration enforcement activity.

At a growing memorial near the shooting site, parents connected to Southside Family Charter School — where Good’s 6-year-old child is enrolled — described a politically active and close-knit community.

“She was a warrior. She died doing what was right,” said Leesa, a parent at the school.

Southside Family Charter School, a small K-5 institution, emphasizes social justice education and community involvement. Several parents said that environment encourages activism.

“From my understanding, she was involved in social justice … we are a tight-knit community and a lot of parents are [activists],” said Rashad Rich, a former gym teacher at the school.

Leesa said members of the monitoring network receive guidance on how to respond during encounters with federal agents.

“[Renee Good] was trained against these ICE agents — what to do, what not to do, it’s a very thorough training,” she said. “To listen to commands, to know your rights, to whistle when you see an ICE agent,” she added.

The neighborhood surrounding the shooting features many homes displaying LGBTQ+ pride symbols, and several families connected to the school live nearby. Another vigil attendee, county worker Kristin Peter, said she shared close ties with Good.

“They were on the same team, they would eat meals together,” Peter said.

Similar ICE monitoring groups operate nationwide, often using apps or alerts to warn communities of enforcement activity. The Department of Homeland Security has reported an increase in vehicle-related incidents involving agents amid heightened tensions over immigration enforcement.

The news of Good’s training comes on the heels of a newly released video that appears to show her aiming her car at the ICE officer before moving forward and striking him while her wife stepped out of the car to film the interaction.

In response to the shooting, Governor Tim Walz has moved Minnesota schools to remote learning for a month.

  1. Is anybody surprised about this ?? I sure am not. She got exactly what she deserved. Of course the demonRAT communists will make a martyr out of her but I say “better a dead martyr than a living threat to the country”. She found out the hard way. Many more need to pay attention. Illegal immigrants / foreign invaders have no Constitutional rights here.
