Joe Biden got some bad news from Wisconsin. Democrats there cannot rig the primary by keeping Democrat Dean Phillips off of the ballot.
The Minnesota congressman appealed to the court after the state’s Democrats tried to claim that he did not have a profile in the national media, a standard required to be on the ballot.
NBC reported the bad news for Biden.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled on Friday that Rep. Dean Phillips will be on the Democratic primary ballot, saying he meets the standard for candidate eligibility.
“Consequently, we direct that the name of Dean Phillips be placed on the 2024 Democratic presidential preference primary ballot as a candidate for the office of president of the United States,” the court said in the Friday opinion.
The court wrote that the committee that determines which candidates appear on the party’s ballot “is granted discretion in determining whether a particular candidacy meets that standard” of being “generally advocated or recognized in the national news media.”
The court found that the committee “held no discussion about Phillips or any other Democratic presidential primary candidate,” noting that the committee’s meeting regarding names for the ballot “lasted just over five minutes.”
Rather than open the possibility of allowing someone to challenge Biden, who at 81, is the oldest nominee in history, Democrats across the country have done their best to rig the primary on the president’s behalf.
In Florida, for example, Democrats in the Sunshine State voted to block all of Biden’s challengers from appearing on the ballot, sparking outrage.
“Americans would expect the absence of democracy in Tehran, not Tallahassee,” Phillips said in a statement. “Our mission as Democrats is to defeat authoritarians, not become them.”
The totalitarian move sparked Andrew Yang, the entrepreneur who ran for the Democratic nomination in 2022, to side with Phillips and help him gain ballot access.
“We are activating our network in Florida to help ensure that voters have a say in the future of the country,” he told ABC News.
“What’s happening in Florida is important — do we live in a democracy or not? If the Democrats can simply cancel their own primaries they should change their name to something else,” Yang continued.
Democrats have long felt uneasy about running Biden again in 2024, but if the rumors are true, they may not have to have those worries much longer. Last month, The New York Post gossip columnist claimed that a superstar candidate will likely be entering the fray in May.
