The Republican National Committee headquarters in Washington D.C. has been placed on lockdown. On Wednesday morning, the building near the Capitol received a strange package that sent police officers scrambling.
NBC reporter Dasha Burns was the first to report the bizarre and gross package mailed to the GOP.
The Republican National Committee headquarters in Washington, D.C., was under lockdown Wednesday morning after someone sent vials of blood to the building, three sources familiar with the situation told NBC News.
A hazardous materials team from the U.S. Capitol Police is on site.
The suspicious package was cleared, the Capitol Police told NBC News. But one of the sources familiar with the situation said the building was still on lockdown and the blood was being tested.

This is the second time in months that one of the headquarters of the two major parties has been attacked.
Last November, an angry mob of pro-Palestine activists surrounded the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee, attacking the building and forcing several members of Congress to stay inside for their own safety.
“Members of Congress were hearing from prospective candidates inside of the DNC when Capitol Police evacuated them from the building,” Rep. Brad Sherman told ABC News in a phone interview.
In total, roughly seven members of Congress became trapped inside when they were evacuated from the building by “heavily armed and serious” U.S. Capitol Police officers, Congressman Brad Sherman said.
The use of blood has been a symbol for anti-Israel protestors.
Protesters at Northeastern University, for example, interrupted commencement ceremonies by smearing red paint on their hands and holding them up for the crowd to see.

The move is to show support for one of the most brutal murders in the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the 2000 Ramallah lynching of two Israelis who accidentally entered Gaza after making a wrong turn.
During the murder, a Palestinian appeared at the window, displaying his blood-soaked hands to the crowd, which erupted into cheers. The crowd clapped and cheered as one of the soldiers’ bodies was thrown out the window, where it was immediately stamped and beaten by the frenzied mob.
