Actor Jeff Daniels, long known for roles on stage and screen and now increasingly for his unhinged political commentary, unleashed a blistering attack on President Donald Trump and his supporters during a recent appearance on MSNBC’s The Best People podcast, hosted by former White House communications director Nicolle Wallace. In a frank conversation, the actor said that he hopes his neighbors in Chelsea, Michigan lose their money because they supported Donald Trump in 2024.
“I hope you’re losing tons of money, those of you who thought this would be OK,” Daniels declared, addressing Trump voters directly. The actor, who hails from the Great Lakes State, which voted for Trump, spared no criticism in what many are calling yet another example of “Trump Derangement Syndrome” afflicting Hollywood elites.
Daniels, best known for his comedic role in Dumb and Dumber, lamented what he views as the degradation of the Republican Party, contrasting the Trump-era GOP with the days of Ronald Reagan. Echoing Wallace’s claims that Trump has inflicted economic hardship on the middle class, Daniels said, “I think, at the end of the day, that’s what’s going to do it. ‘Wait a minute, the grocery bill is what? $180 more?’ ‘I can’t get that car that we have to have unless I pay another $8,000. What? Who do I blame for that? Who do I see about that?’ One person.”
He went on to describe Trump as a “snake oil salesman” and suggested that voters would eventually recognize the alleged falsehood of his economic promises, particularly regarding inflation and housing affordability.
Daniels also offered a sweeping condemnation of political leadership in general, lamenting what he sees as a fall from grace in American governance. “Nobody has great things to say about politicians. They never have. Go back to Mark Twain. But ideally, we’re supposed to elect the best of us. Not the worst of us. He’s everything that’s wrong with not just America but with being a human being.”
Though the conversation eventually turned to Daniels’ greatest delusion: that Kamala Harris would have been like Abraham Lincoln.
This Jeff Daniels clip is even more bonkers than all the headlines going around.

Daniels’ remarks reflect a broader trend among celebrity figures who continue to denounce Trump with moral fervor—even as polls show the roundly disliked by the country. For critics, Daniels’ interview is yet another example of coastal outrage failing to resonate with voters in the very states—like his own Michigan—that once propelled Trump to victory.
