Vehicle Rams Into Secret Service Checkpoint Near White House

A driver was taken into custody Tuesday night after a vehicle rammed into a Secret Service security barrier near the White House, officials said.

The collision occurred around 10:37 p.m. at the intersection of 17th and E Streets Northwest, just west of the executive mansion. A Secret Service spokesperson confirmed that the car struck a gate in that area, reported NBC News.

Images from the scene showed a dark-colored sedan lodged against the reinforced barrier at the west perimeter of the White House complex. “The individual was immediately arrested by U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division officers, and the vehicle was assessed by Secret Service and the Metropolitan Police Department and deemed safe,” the agency said in a statement.

Authorities have not yet released the driver’s identity or disclosed any possible motive. It remains unclear whether the crash was intentional.

The incident comes only weeks after a similar case in Pittsburgh, where a man was detained for driving into the entrance of the FBI’s local field office—an act officials described as deliberate.

Earlier in the week, in Palm Beach, the Secret Service discovered a hunting stand hidden in the line of sight of where Trump deplanes Air Force One, causing the president to change security protocols.
